Outside of town, adventure activities and opportunities to relax in nature abound. Horseback ride to La Fortuna Waterfall, which plunges over 200 ft (70m) into a natural swimming pool. For hikers, the Toucans Trail crosses a large lava flow from 1992 and meanders through the abundant plant life in the rainforest. River rafting trips on Las Penas Blancas River are great for wildlife viewing and a thrilling day of white water. When visitors are ready to relax, the geothermal activity in the area offers many thermal springs for a relaxing and rejuvenating afternoon.

Visitors can sign up for river rafting tours, which range from mellow, sight-seeing floats to trips down class IV rapids. Waterfall rappelling is a fantastic way to both engage with and observe Costa Rica’s outdoors, as are canopy tours. Hiking and biking trips through the rainforest are popular, while soaking in one of the area’s geothermal hot springs is an ideal way to cap off any day. Guests of the Arenal Volcano Inn will enjoy fantastic service, comfortable accommodations and stellar volcano views during their stay. Lounging alongside the swimming pools is a pleasant way to pass the afternoon, and the nearby Jacuzzi can help ease any tension that may have developed during the day. Que Rico, the hotel’s restaurant, serves international cuisine from breakfast till dinner and has space for up to 80 people. The adjoining bar has daily happy hour specials.

Accommodations consist of individual cabins that are set within a lushly gardened area. All have private terraces with wonderful views of the volcano. Inside, each is equipped with a private hot water bathroom, air conditioning, mini fridge and breakfast counter. All rooms have comfortable beds, and certain suites even have a private Jacuzzi.
