Understandably, this region is known both nationally and internationally for its volcano, which until 2010 was the country’s most active. These days Arenal is in a resting phase and no eruptions are currently occurring. This could, however, change in matter of months or years; only time will tell. Despite this, the area still has much to offer visitors. canopy tours, waterfall rappelling, and windsurfing provide thrill-seekers with their fun. More leisurely travelers will be content with hikes through the Arenal Volcano National Park, walks along the hanging bridges, or soaks in one of the area’s geothermal hot springs.

Lomas del Volcán is set on a 370-acre (150-ha) farm at the base of the Arenal Volcano. Hiking trails wind through much of the property and allow guests the convenience of accessible and beautiful outdoor exploration. Back at the hotel, dips into the large, volcano-facing swimming pool are an excellent way to cool off. If, after a long day spent exploring the Arenal area, some relaxation is in order, throw on a swimsuit and enjoy a soak in the Jacuzzi. In the morning, afternoon or evening, fine international meals can be had at the hotel’s onsite restaurant.

Accommodations consist of forty bungalows. The bungalows are spacious and wooden, with large comfortable beds and private hot water bathrooms. Each has two private terraces with spectacular volcano views, as well as ceiling fans and air conditioning to keep things cool. Finally, each bungalow is equipped with a mini fridge, coffee maker, security deposit box, and international telephone.
